During the first month of AC1262, Aras had seen the lands of Southern Ahrea for the first time with his companion Fiva Ni Oele Os Mair, and had near lost her to the great green dragon Sepna Austir. With the last second aid of his allies Selea, Ryhar, and Yunei, Aras had managed to rescue Fiva Ni Oele Os Mair before the dragon was capable of performing a blood ritual upon the wood elf. (Ahrea Campaign 3: Trial Of The Monster Hunter, AC 1261.)

After the events within Sepna Austir’s Halls, Ryhar and Yunei split ways with Aras, wishing not to get themselves further involved in the dangerous quests that the Monster Hunter was inevitably drawn towards. Fiva Ni Oele Os Mair and Selea remained his constant traveling companions, however, and so the two followed Aras as he searched for a new home after having escaped the horrible fate that had fell upon the Northlands he once roamed.

Though time and time again Fiva Ni Oele Os Mair had urged Aras to finally put his sword down once and for all in order to live a more peaceful life during the second month of AC1262, the Monster Hunter was unable to comply with his best friend’s request as he had become haunted with memories of the innocent people he had seen slaughtered in Northern Ahrea and feared for Fiva Ni Oele Os Mair’s life after it had nearly been taken by Sepna Austir. Life in Southern Ahrea did little to aid him giving up his old way of life, as the people of Durden and the various other towns in the northern part of the Southlands looked upon the Monster Hunter and his wood elven companion with disdain, and it soon became quite improvable that Aras would be able to make a comfortable living for himself and his two companions without relying on his fighting skills.

Much to Fiva Ni Oele Os Mair’s dismay, Aras took to offering his services as a sellsword to the general public again, willing to take on any work that promised even the smallest amount of coin (and often, none other then the reward of aiding those in need). As the two and Selea traveled through the northern half of Southern Ahrea performing these deeds, it became apparent that the draconians had managed to cross into the Southlands, not being content with just the Northlands under their control. Having sworn to be a relentless foe to the draconians after the terror he had seen caused at their hand, Aras began to hunt down their patrols within the boundries of Southern Ahrea with Fiva Ni Oele Os Mair and Selea at his side.

It was during one of these excursions into the Gradnel Wood outside of Durden that Aras first encountered Gragus and Travner, having rescued the two after encountering a scouting party of Dakans. Travner insisted that there was a much darker nature to these patrols that they were frequently encountering, rather then the Monster Hunter’s initial thoughts that they were simply out to terrorize the citizens of the Southlands. Travner informed Aras of the ruins upon Mount Freasa, the tallest mountain of Southern Ahrea to the east of Durden. It was there, Travner insisted, that a great artifact rested that was of great importance to the draconians.

After leaving the Gradnel Wood Aras once again encountered his old friend and mentor Adgar, finding that the wizard was searching for the Monster Hunter in order to ask for his aid. The band traveled to Selea‘s home town of Iranel, where Adgar did confirm Travner’s suspicions of the treasure on Mount Freasa. The wizard was aware of an old book of spells that rested within the ruins, one that was capable of opening a portal between the world of Iellos to the Shadows where the dragons originated from. Unwilling to allow the draconians to let the dragons from the other lands to return to Iellos at their will, Aras agreed to acompany Adgar to destroy the tome within Mount Freasa. Despite her fear of Aras losing his life during the quest, Fiva Ni Oele Os Mair decided to acompany her friend once more, as did Selea, Gragus, Travner, and Adgar’s old friend Wekus.

As his new company began to travel once more through the Gradnel Wood to the lone mountain within the Revnel Wastes, Aras encountered a young witch named Aya within the woods. Despite his attempts to get her to join his company, Aya refused to join them as she had her own goal to free herself from the servitude of the Coven of the Red Star Atellis, though both Aras and Adgar became unsettled and concerned after their encounter with the Red Witch.

The journey to Mount Freasa was one of danger, as at the base of the Lone Mountain Aras and his companions nearly lost their lives in a battle against a great Warhawk that made it’s home within the mountain and guarded the bridge across the canyon below. As they finally made it onto the mountain, Aras encountered a fire sprite named Soli within the small forest at the base of the mountain, though the sorcerer Narse of the Legion of Vas nearly killed Aras during his meeting with the fire sprite. Finding that Soli was a captive to the sorcerer, Aras swore to rescue the imprisoned fire sprite as he became aware the Legion was also now upon the mountain in search of the tome within the ruins. Though his company managed to intercept the band of the Legion at the entrance of the ruins, Narse was able to escape with his prisoner into the ruins ahead of Aras’s company, and so the Monster Hunter ventured inside in pursuit of the sorcerer.

The ruins of Mount Freasa were not abandoned as Aras came to discover, as his band soon attracted the attention of an old snakelike race of humanoids who were corrupted by the magic contained within the tome further inside the ruins. After several encounters with these snakemen Aras was able to intercept Narse once more, losing the sorcerer after he had fled but managing to rescue Soli from the sorcerer’s clutches. The fire sprite was grateful for the kindness of the human who had rescued her, and Soli soon began to guide Aras’s company within the ruins, hoping that she would be able to lead them to the tome before Narse was able to locate it.

Travner betrayed Aras, however, having led the Monster Hunter and his companions into a trap set by the Legion. Revealing that he was allied to Legion and the truce between the snakemen and the Legion, Travner managed to kill his traveling partner Gragus and mortally wound Adgar before fleeing further into the ruins with Narse, who had managed to once again capture Soli during the ambush. It was revealed to the party by Narse that he had managed to find the Book of the Realms, and was now en route to the grand chamber of the ruins in order to use it to open a portal to the Shadows.

Aras was enraged after Travner’s betrayal, and swore to kill the man for having killed Gragus. As Selea tended to Adgar with Wekus watching over them, Aras took to continuing further into the ruins after Travner and Narse. Despite his request for her not to follow him due to his fear of her dying with him on a suicide mission to stop Narse, Fiva Ni Oele Os Mair joined Aras as he continued on.

The two were intercepted by the remainder of Narse‘s band of Black Legion Knights, and also the snakemen who had become loyal to the sorcerer. Regardless of this, Aras and Fiva Ni Oele Os Mair fought on against the odds, making their way to a tunnel in which they were ambushed by Travner once more. Though his former ally managed to severely wound him by stabbing him in the stomach, Aras held true to his oath to avenge Gragus’s death and slew Travner in the middle of a frenzied rage. With Travner laying dead before him, Aras continued on into the grand chamber to prevent Narse from opening the portal to the Shadows, though Fiva Ni Oele Os Mair’s pleas for him to stop due to his wounds were ignored.

Aras faced off against Narse within the great chamber, as the Monster Hunter had interrupted the Sorcerer in the middle of the spell that would have opened the portal. Though Aras managed to wound Narse in their duel, the Sorcerer managed to nearly kill Aras and Fiva Ni Oele Os Mair through the usage of enfeebling spells. In order to further drive home the fact that he had failed, Narse showed Aras the ruby that he had trapped Soli in, stating that the fire sprite was doomed thanks to the Monster Hunter’s failure to prevent the portal from opening. As the Narse went back to finishing the spell to open the portal, however, Soli managed to escape her imprisonment within the ruby in order to immolate the Sorcerer. Having been kept alive long enough by Narse to watch the portal open, Aras watched on as Soli burned the Sorcerer alive and as Fiva Ni Oele Os Mair managed to fire one last arrow at Narse, killing the Sorcerer with a well placed shot to the head.

Though Fiva Ni Oele Os Mair was able to recover from her brush with the death-inducing spells that Narse had cast upon them, it seemed that Aras had succumbed to his wounds soon after watching Narse‘s demise. Much to Fiva Ni Oele Os Mair’s delight, however, Selea arrived with Adgar and Wekus after the battle’s conclusion, and the young cleric was able to save the Monster Hunter from death.

After ensuring with Adgar that the Book of the Realms was destroyed so it would no longer pose a threat to the people of Ahrea, Aras and his remaining party left the ruins of Mount Freasa. Aras saw to it that Gragus was buried on one of the scenic outlooks upon the mountain, and after ensuring that Soli would be safe in the care of Adgar, Aras departed from the mountain. As he left he split ways with Adgar and Wekus, and found that as always Fiva Ni Oele Os Mair followed close behind him with Selea as well.

After informing Gragus’s wife back in Iranel of his passing, Aras continued on as a sellsword in the local area, though Fiva Ni Oele Os Mair still wished that it would be possible for one day that Aras would no longer need to do so.
